Feeding Instructions
This feed is designed to be fed to mature horses.
- Your horse’s ideal feed rate depends on body weight, activity level, and forage intake.
- Feed one pound of Respond® per 100 pounds of body weight. This can be used as a starting guideline.
- To dial in the right amount, start with the Horse Feed Calculator below. It generates a personalized daily ration (lbs/day) based on your inputs, giving you a practical baseline to fine‑tune.
- Monitor body condition weekly and adjust in small increments as needed.
- Feed alongside good‑quality forage and offer fresh water.
- When changing diets, transition gradually over 5–7 days.
- If feeding less than five pounds per day, additional mineral and vitamins should be provided.
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, a common respiratory disease of horses, is caused by allergies to dust and mold found in most sun-cured forages. Avoidance of dust and mold in hay may reduce some of the symptoms of COPD. For this reason, Respond® Beet-Pulp Formula may be fed as the sole ration (without hay) for COPD horses.
- Consult our equine experts for special diet questions.
- NOTE: Dividing the amount of Respond® fed per day into at least three portions will help the horse maintain normal feeding behavioral patterns.
